Nadja Helmer-Penry

  • Founder of the ABC German School
  • MA in Education with majors in Russian and English (ESL) from the University of Brandenburg, Potsdam, Germany, 1990
  • Studies included courses at the Russian Language Institute in Moscow, Russia and the University of Washington, Seattle
  • Teaching experience includes ESL for Russian speaking people, German and Russian language courses at various college and language institutes around the Seattle area, lectures for the WAFLT association, teaching at the Eastside German Language School and functioning as the school’s principal for two years, teaching German to grade level classes in public schools and custom/private lessons for adults and children
  • She is raising two children bilingually and travels to Europe frequently
  • Member of the Association of Teachers of German (AATG) and the Washington Association of Foreign Language Teachers (WAFLT)

    Anne Jaeger

    • Masters in Education with majors in History and Russian Language, Teacher’s College in Dresden, Germany, 1985
    • Certified Teacher for Special Needs children, studies in theory of Sensory Integration and Montessori
    • Teacher since 1985
    • Teacher in elementary, junior high and high schools, as well as in schools for children and adults with special needs and preschools in Germany
    • Arrived in Washington in 1996
    • Teacher at the Eastside German Language School, Issaquah since 2001
    • Teacher at the ABC German School since 2002
    • Mother of two sons, who are being raised in English-German environment

      Heike Missal

      • MA in education with majors in English (ESL), Russian (1992) and French (1996) from Ernst-Moritz-Arndt University Greifswald, Germany
      • Studies included courses at Rostov-on-Don University, Russia and 2 semesters as an exchange student at Central Michigan University, Mt. Pleasant, Michigan
      • Taught grades 5 through 12 in Germany, tutored German in Michigan and French in Canada
      • Moved to Canada in 1997 and worked as an international proofreader for German and Russian at Corel Corporation, a Canadian software company
      • Moved to Seattle in 2000
      • Worked as an assistant at a Montessori pre-school
      • Has 2 daughters who are being raised bilingually
       

      Viktoria Dillon

      • Received BA in Education, BS in Education, University of Münster, Germany, 2004
      • Taught elementary grade level in Holzminden, Germany, 2002-2003
      • Worked as a child care provider for children ages 1-8, Seattle, 2005-2007
      • Moved to Seattle in 2005
      • Lives with her husband and son who is being raised bilingually in Bellevue

      Mai-Kirsi Meissner

      • Graduated from IULM, University of Languages and Communication of Milan, Italy.
      • BA in Foreign Languages and Literature (Major in German Language and Literature).
      • Taught German language and literature in different public and private High and Middle Schools in Pavia, Italy (1992-2000).
      • German teacher at the ISU of the University of Pavia, Italy.
      • Teaching experiences for language schools, translations for private and public companies (German, Italian)
      • Moved to the U.S. in 2004 with her husband and 2 children, where she worked as a substitute teacher for all school levels for the Acton Public School District, Massachusetts.
      • Mai-Kirsi moved to Washington in summer of 2008 and enjoys many sports (fencing, swimming) and any kind of outdoor activity with her 2 children, who talk German and Italian at home.

      • Arrived in Washington in 2009
      • Mother of one son, who is raised bilingually

      Nadia Bening

      • Graduated from Humboldt Schule (German School) in San José, Costa Rica.
        • Masters degree in Computer Science from the University of Hamburg, Germany.
        • Teaching experience includes Spanish and German for students of all ages and Math in German for Middle School students.
        • Has worked as a Spanish Language teacher since 2007 at three different Eastside schools for students 6 months old through 3rd grade.
        • Nadia moved to Sammamish in 2006. Her two children are now trilingual in Spanish, German and English.
      • She believes that language is the key to a culture and therefore to a whole new world of exciting experiences for children.

        Shirin Niami
